Review

"The Lunchbox" is a very refreshing, unconventional yet simple, beautifully told and presented love story between two persons who never met in real life. Its about two very lonely and desolate persons living in crowded mega city like Mumbai and how they fell in love over a simple lunchbox delivery mistake by Mumbai Dabbawallahs who are known for their efficiency.

Debutant director Ritesh Batra has nearly excelled in all areas of direction and screenplay with this film. Irrfan and Nawazuddin are today India's one of the finest actors and as usual they have given their heartfelt powerhouse performances but the review of this film would be totally incomplete without mentioning about acting skills of an another debutant in this film, Nimrat Kaur who has done remarkably well. Each and every actor working in this film have fully lived up to their expectations and there is not even a single loophole which can be corrected to better the experience.

Many of my friends have asked me about the ending of the film where it abruptly ends without having a final conclusion or happy/sad ending. But in my view, it is one of the highlights of this film where it is kept open for the audience to ponder over whether they met or not or whether they should have met or not. But it is very clear from the story that Saajan Fernandes returned back for Ila and Ila left everyone for him in hope that they will meet sometime, somewhere.

The Lunchbox is poignant, powerful, honest, engaging and beautiful film. It will make you happy, smile, laugh, sad, guess, think and eventually love it to the core and yes, hungry as well. Believe me you, after watching this film, I could not resist myself to have bhindi masala and panner ke kofte ..

I highly recommend you to watch this film and enjoy every bit of it.

Happy MovieWatching !

  1. Everything was fine bhiya but failed to understand why the Dabbawala had to take the dabba's back to their respective place where it can be easily carried by the person himself..
